Celebuzz Stars Mock Clint Eastwood's Republican National Convention Speech on Twitter http://www.celebuzz.com/2012-08-31/stars-mock-clint-eastwoods-republican-national-convention-speech-on-twitter/ Aug 31st 2012, 23:05 Clint Eastwood's rambling, offbeat 12-minute appearance at the closing night of the Republican National Convention in Tampa so upstaged the rest of the event (including nominee Mitt Romney's acceptance speech a half hour later) that it was all anyone watching could talk about. That included celebrities, who watched as the 82-year-old screen legend argue with an empty chair (that was supposed to be President Barack Obama) with fascination, then took to Twitter in derision. The funniest tweet may have come from comedian Bob Newhart, who, before he was a TV star, was famous for his routines in which he had one-sided phone conversations with imaginary people. What did Newhart and other snarky celebrities say about Clint Eastwood's speech? I heard that Clint Eastwood was channeling me at the RNC. My lawyers and I are drafting our lawsuit… #RNC #ClintEastwood #rnc2012 #GOP2012 — Bob Newhart (@BobNewhart) August 31, 2012 Other stars were more blunt: Clint Eastwood talking to a non-responsive stool sorta sums up Christianity in a nutshell, huh Republicans? #RNC — Jason Biggs (@JasonBiggs) August 31, 2012 Clint Eastwood has gone fuckin nutterbutters yo. — Adam Levine (@adamlevine) August 31, 2012 Some seemed disappointed to see their hero's apparent stumble: Clint Eastwood became huge star as a man of few wordsAs a surprise guest on the Tampa stage he had too many words (I say as a friend) — Tom Brokaw (@tombrokaw) August 31, 2012 is clint eastwood meant to instill confidence in republicans?! i am legitimately scared of his talking to imaginary obama. — Zachary Quinto (@ZacharyQuinto) August 31, 2012 Clint, my hero, is coming across as sad and pathetic. He didn't need to do this to himself. It's unworthy of him. — Roger Ebert (@ebertchicago) August 31, 2012 Francesca Eastwood parties in Hollywood 8 Photos » Others just riffed on what they saw: That was so awesome.Biden has to go shirtless for DNC to top it. — Seth Meyers (@sethmeyers21) August 31, 2012 Clint has now eclipsed the total word count of his last three films. — Richard Roeper (@richardroeper) August 31, 2012 To restore balance to the Universe, Obama must have Tommy Chong onstage at the DNC talking to a steak. — Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) August 31, 2012 Clint Eastwood's RNC speech was to imaginary Obama in an empty chair. I'm drafting a DNC speech to imaginary Romney in an empty factory. — George Takei (@GeorgeTakei) August 31, 2012 Not everyone thought Eastwood's speech was a headscratcher. Some supported him wholeheartedly: I. Love. Clint Eastwood. — Blake Shelton (@blakeshelton) August 31, 2012 Clint Eastwood made my day. — Charlie Daniels (@CharlieDaniels) August 31, 2012 An anonymous jokester set up a Twitter account called @InvisibleObama that quickly attracted 50,000 followers. Even the President himself got into the action. The White House response was a tweeted snapshot, photographed from behind, of Obama in a desk chair, with the caption, "This seat's taken."
